Hi there and welcome to life in 6WA! My name is Mr Adams, and Mrs Rhodes and I are looking forward to sharing lots of exciting times in Year 6 as the children enjoy their final year in primary school.
We have many fantastic topics to cover, kicking off with learning about the local history of our own town, Huddersfield. This topic includes a trip around the town and a visit to the John Smith’s Stadium for a pitch-side tour! We will be exploring how our own bodies work in Science and using books like David Walliams’ Demon Dentist and Oliver Jeffers’ The Day the Crayons Quit to inspire our writing. PE lessons (every Friday, please remember your kit!), will focus on Volley Ball for the first half term, before being taught Hockey by the outstanding teachers from the Pennine Sports Partnership in the lead up to Christmas.
Homework will be set on a Friday and needs to be returned on a Wednesday, please. It is incredibly important that the children are reading regularly to an adult at home, to help them achieve fluency and high-quality comprehension skills; we strongly encourage you to read with – and to – your child as much as possible.
I look forward to working with you – any questions, please pop in and ask!
